Marty Sommers

Marty Sommers wasn’t always a reader.
As a young boy, Marty struggled to find an interest in books. That changed when his father introduced him to Robert Asprin’s Myth series. The humor, adventure, and unforgettable characters finally made reading something to look forward to. Before long, Marty had discovered a love of fantasy that would stay with him for life.
It was during his final years at John Paul II that another important influence entered his life. An English teacher challenged Marty to become a better writer and encouraged him to take his ideas seriously. Inspired by that encouragement, Marty wrote three chapters in a single week—and eventually went on to finish his first novel. That original manuscript still sits in a binder beside him today, serving as both a reminder of where his journey began and of just how difficult it is to create a truly good story.
His love of books only grew when his father opened a second-hand bookstore in downtown London called H Sommers Books. With an almost endless supply of stories within reach, Marty built a personal library of more than 1,100 books. Over the years, those books helped him discover the stories, characters, and adventures he enjoyed most—and eventually inspired him to create stories of his own.
After leaving his career as an Electrician Estimator, Marty decided it was finally time to pursue that dream. With great excitement, he published his first official book on Amazon, beginning a new chapter in his life as a fantasy author.
When he isn’t writing, Marty enjoys playing volleyball and spending time outdoors with his wife. Together they enjoy boating, snorkeling, hiking, and exploring remote places. Marty especially enjoys finding quiet locations surrounded by nature where he can write, recharge, and share adventures with his wife.
For Marty, writing is more than creating books. It is a way of passing along the same sense of wonder and enjoyment that he discovered all those years ago when his father first handed him a Robert Asprin novel.
